Muse | interactive lyric video
Creative direction | Development
‘Panic Station’ is a song by the band Muse, released as the fifth single from their sixth studio album The 2nd Law. In early 2013 I was commissioned to create an online experience to complement the neo-Tokyo themed music video for the song.
Taking inspiration from the LED and neon colours in the single’s artwork and video - the interactive experience presents the user with a 3D landscape filled with glowing particles which dance around a virtual camera and merge together to display lyrics from the song.

A combination of Flash and Away 3D was used to manage 10000 on-screen particles, with each particle having a series of abilities which allowed them to respond music, create words or randomly dance around the virtual space.
Various embedded signals within the audio file were used to control the cameras position and various commands for the particles, providing a nice sit back and just watch experience. However, for users who wanted to get more interactive, there was also the ability to take control of the camera at any point by using your mouse.
